Perhaps the most bizarre example is Mackings – a wealthy businessman from Cleadon Village who won stone working class Whiteleas. Greens came second but he did have an absolute majority. Turnout 37%. So he is dealing with the Green Energy Revolution which Reform denounces as a con. Karen Clark who just squeaked in ahead of Reform in North Tyneside on 36% of votes cast in her mayoral election has Finance and Investment. The LibDems have transport, perhaps the most important real portfolio. A lot of the other portfolio titles look like vacuous nothing. Norma Redfern who was a tough old politico has gone and Karen Clark with the usual claim of Labour politicians these days of having been brought up in poverty – see the wretched Bridget Philipson who did not even have central heating upstairs – replaces her but does not look formidable. All we can hope is that this collection of clowns chaired by nitwit Kim can do nothing of substance since anything real they do will be bad.
